Filipino Mother's Day Memories

Mother’s Day is celebrated with a special meaning for every Filipino, and, I believe that Filipino hosts have a unique view of their relationship with their mothers that I would be privileged to hear about. My memories of Mother’s Day involve the same ethic of declaring love and gratitude for my own mother. When I was in elementary, Mother’s Day always involved my little self sitting down with some paper and writing a whole letter on why my mom was the most beautiful and perfect mother in the world.

In my letter, I'd thank her for all she did for our family, from the things she gave up to the love and care she gave us. Even when life was hard, my mom always found a way to make us happy and bring light into our home. Her strong spirit and constant help were like a power for me, and I felt really thankful to have her with me.

On Mother's Day, I would proudly give my letter to her, and seeing her smile was the best reward. It was a simple action, but it meant everything to both of us. Through these letters, I not only showed my love for my mother but also recognized her many acts of kindness and selflessness that often went unnoticed in the busy routine of everyday life.

This tradition of writing letters to my mother on Mother's Day not only strengthened our bond but also taught me the importance of expressing gratitude and love to the ones who matter most. It reminded me that even in the midst of life's challenges, love and appreciation have the power to uplift and inspire us. And so, every Mother's Day, I continue to reflect on the immeasurable love and sacrifice of my mother, who truly embodies the spirit of Mother's Day in the Filipino tradition.
